OUGD303: Progress Week 12

4th - 10th April

This week I went home for a couple of days from Monday to Thursday. Originally I was only going home for 2 days, however, I haven't seen my mum since her Birthday which was in January. During these Four day's no work was done. On Friday I sent off some emails to design studio's for my Design Context Brief. Five individual emails were sent to studios in England and New York asking if they would kindly answer some questions for this brief. Currently I haven't had any responses but as soon as I do I shall send off the questions. I'm also some point next week going to send off some more emails. Things done during the weekend were not very design lead. Mainly sorting out my computer and organising files. Very time consuming.

OUGD303: Progress_EASTER BREAK

Briefs.

01_ Commercial Vehicle Parts

Currently this brief hasn't got started. The guy i'm meant to be seeing who owns this company is always busy and when he's free to discus the project i'm busy. Theres also the issue that I have to go home back to Grimsby to take the photographs of the vehicle parts and collect the information about them. If i cannot get the opportunity to meet him then I might have to drop the brief.

Things that need doing: Research, photographs of products, concept development, idea development, packaging designs, information booklet, proposed computer interface etc.

02_ Eddisons

Been in contact with Eddisons Residential and got the information that I need and there blessing. Just need to crack on with design development and a little more research.

Things that need doing: Research into Leeds city centre, design direction, design development and range ideas.

03_ British Engineering

Need to speak to GNB. Originally I wanted to send off some emails to British engineers and get some feedback off them but I haven't got round to doing it. Possibly going to ring GNB and get the information I need off them. Would be nice to have some primary research.

Things that need doing: Loads.

04_ ISTD On Yer Bike

This brief has very much been completed. I have done plenty of design development and concept generation.

Things that need doing: Start to put the boards together and get some feedback of piers.

05_ Year Book (Graphics)

This pitch we didn't win and instead got the fashion brief. Completed and everything has already been blogged.

06_ End Of Year Show

The end of year show pitch was submitted and we got the results back that we hadn't won. The brief is finished however me and Tim Wan want to do a few small adjustments to the poster design. We shall get some feedback for it during the Critique.

Things that need doing: Rephotographing the front page images and tweaking up some of the text.

07_ Fashion Year Book

The brief is running ok I guess, even though the commitment and communication of the fashion course is a bit of a joke. Starting to understand why Fred get's a bit annoyed with me at times. The cover design has been chosen and so has the internal spreads for inside the publication. All we are waiting on now is the photographs to be taken of the fashion students work and the information about the students. Something we requested 2 weeks ago and still haven't been supplied with.

Things that need doing: place the images into the pages, add the information to the pages, statements from the tutors to be placed.

Overall

I feel that my progress so fare hasn't been great, mainly down to the fact that meetings and critiques keep popping up all the time. Having to work then go to a meeting then get the momentum to do work again is proofing a little bit difficult at times. But its something i'm slowly getting uses to. I might have to drop one brief and possibly do a one day brief in the middle. Overall including the design context i should have 7 briefs completed in 8 weeks time. I need to start prioritising my time more and working a bit longer through the night. Starting from the first week back. 16 hours a day we need to be achieved so that i can get a good grade. Blogging needs to become more frequent.

OUGD303: Progress_Week 11

28th - 3rd April

This week was mainly meetings with Paul from fashion and doing work for the year book. We had to have specification boards designed and handed in to Lorenzo on the Wednesday. I designed the boards and put them together. It took me a bit longer than I anticipated but thats standard for me. We also discussed with Lorenzo the front cover stock that I obtained the specifications from Kyle Bibby.

Thursday we had design context meeting with Lorenzo. The subject and topic I want to research seems a little vague and confusing for some people. so, because of this I might change my design context statement of intent to something else. Something about less is more... etc. Friday was mainly blogging and looking for design context stuff, The weekend was not practical, mainly because of the BBQ I went to at Ians. Next week I'm off home for a couple of days and then I need to get cracking.

OUGD303: Progress_Week 10

21st - 27th March

This week I was mainly working on my ISTD brief that needed to be ready for 12PM on Wednesday however this deadline was not met. I had spoken to Fred on the Monday that I was not likely to have it ready and because of this my name was removed. Something I have learnt this year that you don't say that you might have something ready for a date when you know you can't make it. Just say yes or no. It makes life easier and they appreciate honesty. I also did some context research for my blog and carried on developing the identity for my ISTD brief. On Thursday I was meant to be in a critique but missed it. This was due to the fact that I was late and not prepared for the critique. These little things that i'm learning will help me in the future. Being prepared and honest is essential.

OUGD303: Progress_Week 09

14th - 20th March

Monday saw me hand in my dissertation and CD to the critical studies department. It is 4 days late because of the fact that I didn't get it binned on time on Friday. After hand in Fred was not impressed with me which is understandable. But in the end of the day its in and out the way. Much of the week was spent doing the fashion year book stuff. Sorting out a photographer which we selected as Adam Fussel. His work I have seen before in the second year when he did the Frank Sinatra photo-shoot for Matt Milner - really good. However the main reason we selected him was because he does fashion photography and that he has a habit of making stuff that isn't so good really good.

On thursday and Friday me and Tim Wan carried on working on the End of Year Show poster/leaflet for submission. It wasn't till Thursday morning approximately 3Am that we came up with a design that fitted with our concept. Thursday we spent much of the day printing the poster off and sorting out the range for the exhibition. The Boards were started during the evening and completed at midnight. On Friday we submitted the board to the marketing department. I feel that the concept and the boards we have done will give us a good chance of winning this competition. The only competitors I see is from Liam and Olly. On wednesday we will find out the outcome. Hopefully the £1000 prize money will be ours.

OUGD303: Progress_Week 08

07th - 13th March

This week was all dissertation writing. Very much 16 hours a day. Friday I was hoping to get my dissertation printed off having done a all-nighter however I missed the deadline. Not good since I will get penalised marks for missing it. Putting more pressure on my FMP. On Monday I will get my work printed off and handed in. Next week will be very busy.
