Graphic Design Proposal: Result.

We got the results back or the year book pitch today and we didn't win. The positive thing is that Fred mention that all of the pitches could of won and would of won if it was last years pitch, however the concept of 3 was the deciding factor. He also mention that he liked our cover design :) which i developed and with the help of a few tweaks from Ben.

After finding out that we hadn't won we was given our first choice of yearbook which was the Fashion book. We have a meeting with them at 12 on Monday and hopefully we can get on with it.

Key points to mention for Monday:

1.Print run quantity.
2.Concept and theme.
3.Photography.
4.Who's in charge. Who do we report to if s***t hits the fan.
5.What info do the want contained in the book.
6. Number of pages.

Graphic Design Proposal: Evaluation.

Overall the year book pitch was ok, what we have done in 3 and a half days is good. I wouldn't say what we have produced is amazing because i feel it doesn't get the concept across which in my eyes is a fail, however, its done, the idea is there just that it needs a little more work.

Working with Kate, Ben and Johnny has been good. We have all been walking hard, more so Ben because of the amount of different spreads that he did. Johnny has been in helped at times but is bogged down with a major brief that needs completing soon. Theres been no arguments which is good and bad, depends how you look at it. At times i feel that people have just said 'yes;' and not expressed what they really want to say. A bit of lengthy debate can make the overall design much better. It can also allow the project to move more quicker because its more focused. This maybe something i might have to say if we win this pitch or when we do the fashion brief.

To conclude i like to say that for the next stage, graphics or fashion, we as a team need to work more independently and produce more design directions. I feel that we might of not explored every avenue like other groups did. But this is something we can learn from and i look forward to working with the others with the next project.

Graphic Design Proposal: Pitch Boards.

Below are the boards for the pitch. I finished them at 7ish this morning. The boards are nice and simple, the content gets the message across efficiently. Overall very happy. Just need to get into University now and get them printed. Having to use the IT staffs printer because the Digital print room is booked with art students.

Graphic Design Proposal: Pitch Boards Layouts.

Ben designed the boards and applied the text. I applied the layout for the images which wasn't hard since i had planned most of this 4 days before, including what points we need to make with the boards. It just need the images applying now.

Graphic Design Proposal: Website Mockup.

Below is the mocked up potential website. I did this pretty much 4 hours before printing the boards because of spending so much time on editing the photographs (Im not particularly good on photoshop). The overall design is good and i think it works well with the theme.

Graphic Design Proposal: Edited Photo's.

Below are the edited photo's that i did. I just got rid of the background and replaced it with subtle grey. I also adjusted the contrast levels slightly. Personally there fare better than the originals. They should look good once on the boards.

Graphic Design Proposal: Yearbook Product Shots.

Today me and Ben printed off the cover and spreads downstairs, at the same time making some modifications. The gold over which looked more of a brown in Indesign came out really well. The photo's taken by me and kate are ok but need some tweaking up which i shall do tonight. The spread photo's i don't think we shall use because they look really bad.

Graphic Design Proposal: Project shoots.

The photo shoots of the work are really well photographed by Jonny. But i still feel we haven't quite sorted the design direction out compared to the concept. However its only a proposal and doesn't need to be exact.

Graphic Design Proposal: Profile Shoots.

The idea we had with the profile pictures was to have a quote projected onto the subject or above the subject. This would the then promote 'legacy' leaving there mark. However, if you do project a quote onto a girls chest, the message changes and distracts the message. We also had a problem with the shadow created from the shoot. Something that would need to be addressed with threw lighting.

Graphic Design Proposal: Photo-shoot.

Today we began to do the photo shoots for the products and the profiles. This will allow Ben to visualise more of what the layout should be in relation to the photo's.

Graphic Design Proposal: Initial Cover Ideas.

Below are some initial ideas. Not many because i tried visualising the 'three' so it could become a infinity symbol, however i just couldn't get it to do it. Was working with Serif typefaces but they wasn't working so i had a word with Ben. The group do agree, we need to use a San Serif.

Graphic Proposal: Initial Layouts.

Below are the initial layouts for the graphic design year book proposal by Ben Bowser. I like the layouts, nice clear and simple. Very formal and to the point. However i don't quite like the use of serifs. Its something i have mentioned to Ben but he wants to use them because the other year books didn't use them. Not sure but it does tie into the concept better.

Graphic Design Proposal: Context_Process Journal.

I know i've already shown the last issue but this one is so nice. Much more lively and has that bit of conflict with hierarchy. Is the type stronger or os it the orange (printed on Knight Cream) or is it the vector diagrams. Any of them could draw you in to pick it up and purchase it.

Design Museum.

Nice example of simple design that is also very effective. The actual note book itself is very plain and has not distinguishing features, however, the use of a small sleeve has made the book look very appealing. I need to look at the cost for having one. It would be interesting if having a plain cover with nothing on it, just the colour of the stock and having that small sleeve worked out cheaper or about the same. I also like the use of a inside sleeve. It could be used to place business cards in.

Graphic Design Proposal: Context_Process Journal.

The Process Journal is a quarterly released editorial publication design by Hunt studio in Australia. The publication celebrates the best of Australian and international graphic design. The Grid design for this publication is very flexible to deal with a wide range of content however it still keeps its structure. The publication has a Keaykoloure Sombre Grey 250gsm cover, with a silver metallic foil and PMS 877 U printed throughout. The poster for the publication acts as a dust jacket.

Below is issue two. Really simply designed with a close and precise attention to small details. The cover i really like; it just spells out pick me up because i contain great design. Thats what our year book needs. We have great design for the content, we just need to show that on the surface. The idea of having a sleeve is too expensive and won't be considered. The pages inside are really nice also, however i think the photography has a massive role in its success.
